MANSURA TROPHY - GENERATING INTEREST FROM HYBRID PROJECTS WORLD-WIDE
The 2012 Royal Thames Mansura Trophy, details of which were announced recently, has already received expressions of interest from a number of companies. Significantly, not just from businesses in Europe but elsewhere in the world, including Australia. The competition was inaugurated in 2006, and the Royal Thames Mansura Trophy is the most prestigious international maritime award presented for the latest innovative developments in hybrid marine power. The biennial competition is organised by the Royal Thames Yacht Club, supported by Bosch Engineering GmbH.
“I am delighted that we have had so many expressions of interest so soon after we announced the 2012 Trophy”, said Jack Edwards, a Mansura Trophy Trustee. “It is a reflection, I believe, of the rapid growth of interest in green developments in the marine industry. What is significant about the interest we have received so far is the focus not just on the development itself but extending this into marketing, sales and product support capabilities – in other words a real-world development.”
The Trophy has strong support from The Green Blue, a joint environmental initiative from the Royal Yachting Association (RYA) and the British Marine Federation (BMF). Vessels eligible for consideration must have at least two independent sources of propulsive energy and the final drive system being electrical.
The Royal Thames Yacht Club has already identified over 100 companies worldwide who are associated in some way with hybrid developments within the marine industry. “We sometimes can be forgiven for thinking”, reflected Jack Edwards, “that the only industry engaging in green technology developments is the automotive industry but the interest so far received in the Royal Thames Mansura Trophy and the substantial attendance at the HyMar Conference in Amsterdam last November suggest that other industries, particularly marine, are working very hard on hybrid technology developments”.
All entries for the 2012 Mansura Trophy must be received by the Royal Thames Yacht Club by the 7th January 2013. The award will be made in March 2013. Full details and entry requirements and forms are available by visiting www.mansuratrophy.com
