Humber RIBs of the UK have landed a prize contract that constitutes a fitting tribute to the company’s outstanding record of supplying professional RIBs to the international offshore market for some 50 years now. The contract is for the supply of no less than 10 Ocean Pros and Offshore 7.5m RIBs to be used as official chase and marker boats throughout the 2020 Tokyo Olympics due to take place from 24th July through to 9th August.

Andrew Roffee, Head of Humber Global Sales, told PBR: ‘We are all delighted that Humber have been chosen from the hottest competition and rigorous evaluation process. It’s a credit to our hard-working team and underscores the fine reputation that our Ocean Pro and Offshore models have acquired over the years. It’s also been to our advantage that we always carry a good amount of stock. This means quick delivery times for customers. Indeed, this was another key factor in our ultimately securing this particular contract.’

Tender applications were apparently screened and judged on the basis of build quality, value for money and the chosen manufacturer being able to guarantee the necessary build schedule, as laid down by the Olympic committee responsible for the procurement of craft. In our next issue we shall be publishing a full feature on the Humber Ocean Pro as well as a detailed look at what’s involved in the professional coding of such a craft.
