Redbay Boats of Ireland have just launched their much anticipated, all-new 14.50m model. The vessel, now undergoing its initial sea trials, represents a significant step forward for the company in terms of a market-leading, all-weather-orientated design. But though this first craft has been commissioned by a private individual as an offshore cruising and exploration vessel, it’s perfectly clear what potential the new model holds for the professional sector too.

Redbay Boats Head of Sales Gary Fyfe informed PBR: ‘This first 1450 holds the accolade for also being the very first production boat to be installed with Yanmar’s latest 8LV-370 engine package. I have to admit to being very impressed with the engine’s performance throughout the boat’s commissioning process. Bearing in mind the new 1450 weighs in at 18,500kg, the 8LV-370 engine pushes the boat effortlessly to 36.5 knots and, perhaps even more noteworthy, she cruises at 25 knots and burns only 125 litres per hour. Quite astonishing for a boat of this weight and size.’

Redbay clearly have big plans for this exciting new flagship to their highly respected range of RIBs. We look forward to testing and evaluating this new boat and engine combination later in the year and duly bringing you the results of our independent findings.
