What Does This Policy Cover?

This Privacy Policy applies only to your use of www.powerboatandrib.com and your interactions with Powerboat & RIB magazine. Our website does contain links to other websites, via adverts or editorial. Please note that we have no control over how your data is collected, stored, or used by other websites and we advise you to check the privacy policies of any such websites before providing any data to them.

What data do we collect about you?

Information you give to us

From our site we sell subscriptions to Powerboat & RIB magazine, along with single issues and back issues, and from time to time other items. In order to process your orders and requests, it is necessary to collect essential information from you. This includes, but is not limited to: your name, mailing address, telephone numbers and  your email address. For gift subscriptions, we will collect information about the donor and recipient, in order to process the order.

Powerboat & RIB use a secure online subscription management provider, SimpleCirc. SimpleCirc are required to protect your data.

Your orders are process through the third party secure payment processor, PayPal or Stripe who have their own Privacy & Cookie Policies. 

For those who who received the Readers Highlights or the Powerboat & RIB Newsletter, Powerboat & RIB never sell their email list to third parties. To register for the digital edition, your name is voluntary, but your email address and country is required.

Other Information we collect.

In order to compile statistics relating to the use of our website, we use third party Statistics software and providers, including Google Analytics. Depending upon your use of our Site, we may collect some or all of the following additional personal and non-personal data (please also see Part 14): Information about your preferences and interests; IP address (for geo-location information); Web browser type and version; Operating system; A list of URLs starting with a referring site; your activity on our site, and the site you exit to; adverts you may click on. This data is purely for analytical purposes to provide statistics for our website use, and feedback for our advertisers.

Information we keep

We will retain the information noted above in order to manage subscription accounts, including name, address, email address and telephone number. Added to this data will be the date of order, subscriber assigned reference, company (if relevant), the current subscription issues purchased, subscription rate paid, the original issue ever subscribed to, the payment type, and any notes relevant to the subscription. (Example: Issue X lost in post, resent & date).

Payment Information

If purchased via PayPal, the PayPal website retains information about the order. If you purchased through Stripe, Stripe retains information about the order. Powerboat & RIB does not see your payment information when paid via PayPal or Stripe (other than your registered PayPal email address, and for Stripe your name, email, subscriber ID and last 4 digits of your card) or GoCardless direct debit provider. These third party payment providers keep your payment information, we have no control over their use of your data and we recommend you read their respective Privacy Policies. If you have Auto-Renew enabled on your subscription, Stripe manages your payment information for your automatic renewal. If purchased directly with our office via telephone, your credit card details will be taken in order to process your order via a credit card terminal. Once processed, the card details will then be destroyed and are not retained or stored by Powerboat & RIB Ltd. If purchased directly with our office via a magazine coupon, your credit card details supplied will be used to process your order via a credit card terminal. Once processed, the card details will then be destroyed and are not retained or stored by Powerboat & RIB Ltd.


How Do You Use My Personal Data?

Under the GDPR, we must always have a lawful basis for using personal data. This may be because the data is necessary for our performance of a contract with you, because you have consented to our use of your personal data, or because it is in our legitimate business interests to use it. Your personal data will be used for the following purposes:

  • Providing and managing your Account;
  • Managing your subscription Supplying our products or services to you. Your personal details are required in order for us to enter into a contract with you. Once you have ordered a subscription from us, we are contractually bound to service that subscription. Without your personal information, it would not be possible to fulfil that contract.
  • Fulfillment of an order If you purchase an item from our shop, we are contractually required to supply that item. Your personal details are required in order to fulfil that order.
  • Communicating with you.  From time to time during your subscription, we may need to contact you via phone, email or post. This may include responding to emails or calls from you, and contacting you to advise you of your subscription being due for renewal.
  • Readers Bulletin If you are a current or previous subscriber to Powerboat & RIB, either print or digital edition, and supplied your email address, you will be sent our Readers Bulletin by email. Your email data is processed for this purpose on the legal basis of Legitimate Interest. This email is designed to support your readership, highlighting specific articles, features, news, events or offers. You can unsubscribe at the bottom of any email at any time.
  • Trade Powerboat & RIB will supply our Readers Bulletin to all trade personnel associated with Powerboat & RIB, including advertisers, suppliers, trades. Your email data is processed for this purpose on the legal basis of Legitimate Interest. You can unsubscribe at the bottom of any email at any time.
  • Analysing your use of our Site and gathering feedback to enable us to continually improve our Site and your user experience. To compile statistical data on user activity on our Site. (See above ‘Other information we collect).
  • Website User Account – In order to comment on posts and articles on our Site, you may be required to open a user account. The minimum information required to do so is your email address, but a user may enter additional information at his own discretion. This information is not used by Powerboat & RIB for any other purpose. At a future date, we may introduce a member only area to our website, the latter would require a user account to access and log in to the member only area.
  • Lawful marketing – With your permission and/or where permitted by law, we may also use your personal data for marketing purposes, which may include contacting you by email and/or telephone or post with information, news, and offers on our products or services. You will not be sent any unlawful marketing or spam, we will only send you information of legitimate interest. We will always work to fully protect your rights and comply with our obligations under the GDPR and the Privacy and Electronic Communications (EC Directive) Regulations 2003, and you will always have the opportunity to unsubscribe at the bottom of any email at any time.

Third Parties including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube, Threads may use third-party Cookies to allow you to share or comment on posts for social media use, or to facilitate the website including a social streams, which you may click on to read. Please note that we do not control the activities of such third parties, nor the data that they collect and use themselves, and we advise you to check the privacy policies of any such third parties.


How Long Will You Keep My Personal Data?

We will not keep your personal data for any longer than is necessary in light of the reason(s) for which it was first collected. Your personal data will therefore be kept for the following periods (or, where there is no fixed period, the following factors will be used to determine how long it is kept):

  • Print Subscriber details will be retained for 5 years after the expiry of the subscription. During this time we will provide periodic opportunities for the subscriber to renew their lapsed subscription under the basis of our Legitimate Interests with the interest of the subscriber taken into consideration who may wish to renew. After 5 years, it will be considered the subscriber has demonstrated no wish to renew and all data held for that subscriber will be deleted.
  • Back Issue/Single issue orders details will be retained for 5 years after the fulfilment of the order. During this time we will provide opportunities for the customer to subscribe under the basis of our Legitimate Interests with the interest of the customer taken into consideration who has already demonstrated an interest in the product and may wish to subscribe. After 5 years, it will be considered the customer has demonstrated no wish to subscribe and all data held for that customer will be deleted.
  • Digital subscriptions may not expire.
  • Data in the form of your email address and/or name will be processed by means of the Readers Bulletin indefinitely. You will always have the opportunity to unsubscribe at the bottom of any email at any time.

How and Where Do You Store or Transfer My Personal Data?

We will only store or transfer your personal data in the UK. This means that it will be fully protected under the GDPR.

Your data shared with Pagesuite includes your name, address and email address.


Do You Share My Personal Data?

We will not share any of your personal data with any third parties for any purposes, other than the following exceptions:

In some limited circumstances, we may be legally required to share certain personal data, which might include yours, if we are involved in legal proceedings or complying with legal obligations, a court order, or the instructions of a government authority.

Subscriber data: We only share data with our directly appointed service providers, including 1) our mailing house for posting of your magazines purchased, 2) Pagesuite, our provider for online digital editions and apps, 3) Mailchimp for our Readers Bulletin and email supply, 4) SimpleCirc, our hosted print subscription management software provider.

Your data shared with our mailing house includes name and address, and reference number. This is shared via a secure FTP link.

Your data shared with Pagesuite includes your name, email address, and country; and in some instances if originally given as it is optional, your address and telephone number. Your data shared with Mailchimp includes your name and email address. Your data with SimpleCirc includes your name, address, telephone number, email and subscription status and order history.


How Can I Control My Personal Data?

You can ask us at any time to delete your personal data, but please note if you are a current subscriber, deletion of your data will render it impossible to supply your magazines or digital edition. If you are a lapsed subscriber, we will delete your data immediately on receipt of your request. If you receive Readers Highlights or have opted-in to the Newsletter, you can unsubscribe at any time by clicking the unsubscribe link at the bottom of the email. If you have registered for the online digital edition, you can email us to cancel at any time and we will delete your data from Pagesuite, our digital edition provider.


Can I Withhold Information?

You may restrict our use of Cookies. On arrival at our Site you can read our Cookie Policy (https://powerboatandrib.digital/cookie-policy/) via the link at the bottom of the site. Our site uses cookies – small text files that are placed on your machine to help the site provide a better user experience.
